The incidence of postoperative discitis in the lumbar disc herniation is rate. The author examined the erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESP) of the periipheral blood for the diagnosis of the postoperative discitis. Elevation of the
ESR
with positive clinical symptoms is good indicator for accurate early diagnosis. The author examined the ESR in the 43 operated and uncomplicated lumbar disc herniated patients. The ESR elevated postoperative day 3.5 and became the level
as
preoperative
state from postoperative day 7. The author thought that the results could be used to accurate diagnosis of the postoperative discitis in the lumbar disc herniations.
